IBM i Services for defective PTFs installed

Currently the Must Gather Tool has an option for checking for any installed defective PTF's on an LPAR.

The output of this is a spoolfile, which does more belong to the time when we still used the term AS/400

Use Case:

An IBM i DB2 for i Services which does a check for any defective PTF installed on the LPAR with also the PTF solving the defect would be a very nice to have feature.

This enhancement was delivered in May 2023 with IBM i 7.5 PTF Group level 4 and IBM i 7.4 PTF Group level 25.

The new SYSTOOLS.DEFECTIVE_PTF_CURRENCY view returns a list of defective PTFs on the system that do not have the corrective PTF applied

You can read about it on a new fact page here: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6981863
And in IBM Documentation here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5?topic=services-defective-ptf-currency-view

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed.

While IBM i Services are a great alternative to many established IBM i CL commands and APIs, this is a niche topic that is covered well by IBM i Support's Must Gather tooling.
If you want to see an improvement in this area, please submit a request to the IBM i Support team to enhance the Must Gather tool, perhaps to provide a menu option to dump this data to a user supplied library and file.

For those subscribers to this topic, note that the corrective PTFs for defective PTFs will frequently be included in the HIPER Group. So, if you follow the best practice of staying current on the HIPER Group level, you should rarely identify many defective PTFs that have not yet been superceded.
That said, the Must Gather report can be valuable insight. However, for the reasons stated above we are declining this RFE with a decision that we will focus on higher value topics for IBM i Services.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address.

Having an IBM i service which enables you to check the health of IBM i, will help to improve the ability to jeep IBM i healthily.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT
