Service Manager for Pase

Right now every tool in pase has its own way to start it. This is hard to remember.

For example to start Nginx you would run

nginx -c /www/nginx/nginx.conf

to end Nginx you would run

nginx -c /www/nginx/nginx.conf -s stop

It would be much easier if there was some service manager that allowed for a more simple and uniform way of handling this.

servicemanager start nginx

servicemanager stop nginx

Use Case:

Start / stop services in a uniform way

.Hopefully your requirements can be addressed with the open source service-commander project: https://theprez.github.io/ServiceCommander-IBMi/#service-commander-for-ibm-i

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” LOW priority feature.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

For TCP servers (which nginx would qualify) , you could use the ADDTCPSVR to register a server:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_74/cl/addtcpsvr.htm

Then you'd just need something like a simple CL program to run the shell commands that start/stop the server. From that point, you can manage it with STRTCPSVR/ENDTCPSVR, and optionally have it autostart with STRTCP too.
