This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Provide a way to assign an alternate (i.e. "short") name to schemas/libraries when used within an SQL statement. This is different from the Long SQL Name and the Short System Name. What I want to do is something like: select * from table(ST.myfunction(...))...
Where "ST" is referencing the Library/Schema SQLTOOLS or SYSTOOLS or MYLIBRARY or whatever library name I choose.
When writing lengthy SQL statements (such as WITH...) the schema name can be too noisy/cluttering up the statement. I'd like to create a short alias for the schema used for function qualifiers.
Something like:
SET Schema Alias SQLTOOLS = ST;
Then where ever I use ST. in the SQL script or UDF, it references the SQLTOOLS schema.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed.
While we agree that this is an interesting idea, it is not something we intend to pursue. The database team has many requests for new functional capabilities that are higher priority. The cost of adding a proprietary construct like this that is strictly intended as a programming shortcut is too high to consider at this time.
The syntax "SET Schema SQLTOOLS Alias ST;" would be more in line with the current set schema statement.
