This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. As the use of qualified data structures is expanded, the size of the variable names needs to increase.

It is the limit of 64-characters that is the problem. This when the host variables used in the SQL statement is based on a qualified DS with a long a name with subfields with long names. The limit of 64 characters should be extended to for example 128 characters.
Here is an example:
EXEC SQL
SELECT MachineLine_ID, DimDiesIndicator, UsedFrom, UsedUntil, SeriesID, SeriesName,
Update_TS, Update_User
INTO :Create_MachineLineDimensionAndDiesSeries_Data
FROM FINAL TABLE(
INSERT INTO NLPMDDV2
VALUES(
:v1_Create_MachineLineDimensionAndDiesSeries_Data.MachineLine_ID,
:v1_Create_MachineLineDimensionAndDiesSeries_Data.DimensionDiesIndicator, <= Too long...
:v1_Create_MachineLineDimensionAndDiesSeries_Data.UsedFrom,
:v1_Create_MachineLineDimensionAndDiesSeries_Data.UsedUntil,
:v1_Create_MachineLineDimensionAndDiesSeries_Data.SeriesID,
:v1_Create_MachineLineDimensionAndDiesSeries_Data.SeriesName,
DEFAULT,
DEFAULT ));
Please provide an example of what you are trying to do.
- Have you coded the ALIAS keyword for your File or DS definitions? You do need to code ALIAS to use the long names.
- Or do you want to use names that are longer than the 64-character limit for the SQL precompiler?
Specify the Alias keyword on the DS... Dcl-DS MyDS ExtName("MYFILE") Qualified Alias;
Or are you referring to another issue, please provide an example.
