Allow RTVSYSINF and UPDSYSINF to/from library in IASP

We would like to have the possibility to run RTVSYSINF and store this information in a library which is in an independent ASP.
Currently this fails with MCH5601.

Use Case:

We have many customers using independent ASPs doing backups on their HA site.
Because of this it often takes a long time until a complete backup of the production system is done.
We would like to include the system information in our daily backups utilizing a RTVSYSINF into a library residing on IASP, then using techniques like flashcopy or metromirror to get a 1:1 copy on our second location and performing a backup there.
Thus we would be able to run UPDSYSINF from that backup in case of any disaster recovery operation.

In response to the question as to whether a PTF could be provided for IBM i 7.3 as well, the answer is yes. Do keep in mind that it will take some time to create and test the PTF. Please monitor APAR number SE76638 to know when the IBM i 7.3 PTF becomes available for it.

    Hi,
I have seen that there is already a fix for V7R4. Will there be one for V7R3 as well?

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

    Hello,

After reading your RFE I think the first part can be achieved with that what is already available today.

The SAVSYSINF command can make use of a *SAVF. That will allow you do move that *SAVF to a library in the *IASP.

In that case you do have what you need at the DR/HA side when you need it. If you reverse the process in the case of a disaster, take the *SAVF from the *IASP and move it to *SYSBAS you can do what you need to do there.

There is only one thing I would like to ask. The SAVSYSINF is saving system information. Did you already try to apply what is being saved on another system? Is that even possible?

Thanks for creating this RFE and I do hope you answer my question, because I like to learn.

    Greetings Rudi
