Access Client Solutions splash screen disappeared

I have installed Access Client Solutions version 1.1.8.7 in order to test it before it is rolled out in production.

It looks like the splash screen has disapeared and I know for sure that this will cause our users to
click multiple times on the icon believing they haven't hit it.

I initially raised the issue in a forum and one of the replies was from Scott Klement. He found out that if he start it from an MS-DOS prompt by switching to the appropriate directory and running "java -jar acsbundle.jar" it will show a splash screen. But, if he start it via the icon it installs in Windows, it will not. Likewise, if he manually modify the icon to run the same "java -jar" command, it will not show the splash screen.


Use Case:

Splash screen not showed when started via icon on Desktop in Windows. This causes users to click on it several times getting black screens because they haven't entered their credentials at that time. Then they called support for help. And this could be avoided if the splash screen was shown.

I first observed this in ACS 1.1.8.6 ( 1.1.8.7 was published during my testing).

    Thank you for submitting your Request For Enhancement. Prior to 1.1.8.6, we used our own implementation for supporting a splash screen. This had the shortcoming of a delay that existed while the Java Virtual Machine was initializing. For some environments, this delay was causing the same issue you have reported where users were confused. In our 1.1.8.6 release, we switched to use Java's support for the splash screen so that it would be displayed as early as possible. Unfortunately, Java 8 does not fully support it as you have reported. Our recommendation is to move to Java 11 as we have no plans to support our previous splash screen implementation. Here are a couple options for getting free versions of Java 11:

    I was using the AdoptOpenJDK version 8 with ACS 1.1.8.7 and had no splashscreen. I then installed and used AdoptOpenJDK version 11 with ACS 1.1.8.7 and the splashscreen was back, so this could be related to which distribution and version of JRE/JDK you use with ACS.

    The splash screen appears to slow as well (in a Citrix environment).

IBM I Access Client Solutions V1.1.8.6 Copyright screen

When launching IBM I Access Client Solutions in V 1.1.8.6, we do not get the IBM i for Business Copyright panel unless JDK 11 is installed. Current workstations are running JRE 8.. This was not a problem in IBM I ACS V 1.1.8.4. or previous release...
