Reload in Apache

Apache has functionality called graceful restart. It allows for reading in a new config without having all the connections dropped.

Typically on other OS you could run something like apachectl -k graceful (or the service manager equivalent).

Having this functionality available on the IBM i would be very useful and allow for less down time. Nginx on the IBM i already has this functionality (nginx -s reload) and it would be nice if Apache also had it.

2. Use reload
3. Have changes take effect without dropping connections

    IBM understands this requirement. Not sure its possible to deliver within a reasonable effort, as IBM HTTP server is built with ILE jobs vs being a multithreaded process. This enhancement will be reviewed and delivered if possible.

    The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address.
    Having this functionality available on the IBM i would be very useful and allow for less downtime. This feature will be essential for companies that are running 24/7 and have has an apache strategy for web serving.

    Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
