My company CM First performs upgrades for customers of their IBM i OS. In reference to the PMR above we ran into an install failure of product 5770SS1 Option 1. The failure was due to a user profile storage limit when replacing the system catalog files. Apparently, this problem is rare, and tech support has found us to be the first case of this kind, but we feel that either, the installer should handle this situation differetly, or we should be able to run a utility to check the catalog files before IBM i is upgraded. It took 2 days for IBM tech support to resolve the issue so that we could complete the upgrade, and then a further week to figure out what went wrong in the first place. This obviously annoyed the customer, and they became hyper sensetive about their other 4 systems. After further research this condition only existed on the first system we upgraded. However, if you review the PMR this situation could be quite common.
See referenced PMR.

IBM believes that the request described has been solved and is available in the base on IBM i 7.4.
Sorry to hear of your troubles, it sounds like a test for this could be included in the User Profile check in the Prepare to upgrade option before the upgrade is started.
I would be interested in know more about the specifics of the problem, if you would care to share details of the Problem and Solution, and how in your experience it could be avoided, then I would be interested in looking into it further.

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed.
Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT
