Integrated Web Services Server Start Up

We are a provider of Healthcare applications utilizing IBM's Power Server running IBM i (v7r2m0 or better) OS. The HCS application uses IBM Websphere Application server express to serve up Java Script application to the users via a browser. Data requests and updates are made via webservice calls to an IWS 2.6 server running on the same Power Server. Webservices are written in ILE RPG and perform the necessary exchange of data between the DB2 database and the Java Script front end.

Use Case:

Our current IWS 2.6 server has 1025 webservices installed. These web services cover a full suite of Healthcare applications.

Our problem is related to the start of the IWS 2.6 server. Based on information supplied by IBM, all webservices start at the same time. In doing so, the server CPU and memory become over utilized and the start up process takes 8 or more hours to complete.

We are looking for a way to control how the web services are started so they do not all start at once. This will cut down IFS contention, memory heap size issues, GC operations and high CPU utilization -
all of which cause the length of time the server starts to be delayed.

Latest HTTP group in IBM i 7.2 and above has improvements in startup time that seems to have cleared up the problem. Please try that out and reopen if problem persists.

IBM agrees with the request and a solution appears to be desirable and feasible. IBM intends to provide a solution. However, IBM's plans may change and no commitment is made that a solution will be provided.
