SQL Enhancement - CREATE OR REPLACE INDEX

Please implement CREATE OR REPLACE INDEX

Use Case:

In setting up a source member for a CMS to create or change an index through RUNSQLSTM, if the index already exists, it errors out. If I precede the CREATE INDEX with a DROP INDEX, it errors out if the index does not exist.

IBM has implemented CREATE OR REPLACE on other objects, such as tables, views, and others. Having CREATE OR REPLACE INDEX will also ease index maintenance.

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

    Medium:
The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

There is already a standard for creating tables & views with the option OR REPLACE. This should also be implemented for INDEXES to standardise SQL way of defining database objects.

Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. It would be good to avoid a second step, and make it more consistent with the other CREATE statements.
