Media prediction

Media prediction – I would like BRMS to predicatively tell me when I am running low on available scratch volumes to be able to perform a backup.


Use Case:

I have numerous systems that I am in charge of. If I had a warning that I was "low" on available scratch volumes for specific media classes, I can make sure I have enough volumes prior to the backups. It would be nice if I could specify what the "low" threshold is. BRMS could potentially analyze my previous backups to predict whether I have enough tapes available for the next run.

    The BRMS team has introduced SQL services that can be used to allow users to analyze their own unique environments and additionally there is the STRBALBRM command available which gives the ability to balance a number of scratch volumes owned by each system in the BRMS network. Since these alternatives are available the BRME team will not pursue this function.     The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. This is important functionality for the user community, however there is a simple work-around at present.

    Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    CAAC Statement: This is a very valid request, a quick workaround is to write a CL to get that information. Then put that CL on the job Scheduler so that you are alerted.

    The BRMS team will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. The BRMS team will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.
