Extend FINAL TABLE to UPDATE/DELETE statement

DB2 on other platforms offers the FINAL TABLE with UPDATE/DELETE statements, however on IBM i this is limited to INSERT only.

Please change DB2 for i to also support FINALE TABLE on UPDATE/DELETE statements.

Use Case:

The statement below...

Select Name from FINAL TABLE (Update Employees set Salary = Salary * 1.10 where ID = 37)

... is a combination of an UPDATE and SELECT. Without the FINAL TABLE support one would need to write two seperate SQL statements.

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

IBM has received the requirement and is evaluating it. IBM will provide a response after evaluation is complete.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. Although there is similar support, in that one could do an Update or an Insert over a Select, this would be much more elegant, and would have potential for widespread use and adoption of SQL.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

Perfect idea - and much more clear than other RDBM systems that use: DELETE ...RETURNS ...
