Allow copy to clipboard on all ACS dialogs

All ACS dialogs should provide the ability to mark text and copy to the clipboard

Use Case:

When an ACS error is display, you have the option to generate the service log. Which displays

MSGGEN002 - The request completed normally - followed by the path of the generated file. You cannot copy the path to the clipboard.

I have run into many similar use cases over the years using ACS, just cannot remember them all, other than being frustrated by the lack of the copy to clipboard function

IBM understands this request and will consider it for a future code update, though no commitment is made or implied.

This is a hidden gem, great functionality but it seems to be hiding in plain site. I personally had no idea it was there but have used it many times since I discovering it.

I recommend that we make it easier and more intuitive to discover for other users of ACS.

Ideally I would recommend the text be copied in a more traditional "mouse over, click and drag to select, then right click to show option to copy " method.

If that is not possible, then perhaps one of the following solutions could be implemented:

    a) Right click to display an menu option to Copy Text

    b) Add text on the message panel to let you know this is copy to clipboard possible.
Perhaps something as simple as a message at the bottom of the window saying "Press Ctrl + C to copy text to clipboard"

ctrl-c also works on Mac. Mac normally supports command-c for copy, so that can be investigated.

I found a Windows PC to test on, and yes, you are correct, it works on Windows.
However, I am using a Mac and it does not work on Mac.
    MacOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Our current support does exactly what you are asking. The keyboard shortcut ctrl-c (on Windows) does a copy of the text in the panel (it is not taking a screen shot). We do not currently support highlighting a portion of the text, but all the text will be copied (as text) to the clipboard. Here are the exact steps: (1) click on the pane with the pop-up message (2) ctrl-c (on Windows) will copy the entire text of the panel to the clipboard (3) Paste the text to the target location. These steps should work for all pop-up messages throughout the product. Does that satisfy the request?

Thanks for your feedback but any number of screen capture tools can do what you suggested. It appears I have not communicated the use case properly.

The purpose is to copy and paste the dialog text into a document (such as a problem ticket where somebody can search on the text) or Google (to search for a solution), with having to waste time by painstakingly having to retype it, making and fixing typos, and shuffling windows around so you can see both the source dialog box and the target of where you want the text to be. In this specific case I wanted to copy and paste the error log path.

I expect that this ability to be a common sense standard design and I know it is not that hard to do, especially if it was part of the GUI initial design. Going back and fixing it is always harder to do, but thats on you, not the end user that is trying to use your product.

While we do not support the ability to highlight the path, for the error message panel mentioned, you can copy the entire panel using the keyboard shortcut for copy (ctrl-c on Windows). This should also work for other popup messages throughout the product. We may not add the ability to highlight portions of these types of panels, but if there are other specific panels which need copy-to-clipboard capability, please specify.

    Hello,

Although I agree that not being able to cut and paste is not convenient. Once you know that there is an alternative to get there without needing the link, this might work for you too.

In ACS go to the Edit Menu, select the Local Settings tab, in the bottom of that screen you have the option to open the Service dump directory.

I hope this is of any help for you.
