GraalVM

With the new upcoming version 11 of Java and beyond, the "classic" script engines of JavaScript and Python will be discontinued. Nashor and Jython will disappear in favor of running Java, Python, JavaScript, and more on the common VM - the GraalVM. Applications that use these script engines will be stuck on Java 8.

Use Case:

GraalVM is a new VM that aims to run "any" language and let them interoperate in a clean and secure way (Same idea as ILE). Whereas the classic implementations were tooling that lets the JVM run these applications with the limitation that has.

There is a migration path for classic script engine usages towards GraalVM.

Looks like I misunderstand the response of "Targeted for OpenSource Code". Changed it to "Declined". But as I stated in previous note, we may port it as RPM as open source project on i.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address.

This would address current cloud implementation needs to work seamlessly and also prepare IBM i clients for the future.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT
