Tesseract optical character recognition engine port to IBM will provide convenience and lower costs in building image-processing applications. Reasons for this poer are the following The first reason is convenience -- the C++ version of Tesseract can be tricky to compile (with prerequistes) and install, and nearly impossible for people with less knowledge of C. The second reason is that for some applications, offload image processing on the server can allow the application to scale more and allow for scanning of more sensitive documents.
Use case is scanning and OCR recognition of for example invoices and other documents making it easier for developpers on IBM i to use such techniques.
