Enhance RUNSQLSTM C compiler Please!

The C compiler used for compiling SQL Functions and Procedures is badly in need of an update.
"Create SQL ILE C Object" as it is called limits too much of the C compiler features.

Use Case:

When RUNSQLSTM calls the "Create SQL ILE C Object" compiler, the LOCALTYPE(*CLD) compiler option is used/forced. Therefore Regular Expression C runtime functions cannot be used in inline C code or by the translator itself.
In addition C++ Classes/Objects cannot be used in inline C code.

IIBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed.

The generated code for SQL PL will not be changed from ILE C to ILE C++. The ability to bind to other ILE code is possible with the extensions currently available with SQL PL, using SET OPTION BINDOPT. While this request would allow more efficient integration of C code, it does not provide access to anything new.

There are many other enhancements that would be adopted by a larger set of users, so this idea is unlikely to be implemented any time soon. For that reason it is being declined.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” LOW priority feature.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT
