Do not change the date field in date area if only change for a source line is a "white space" change.

Do not change the date field in date area if only change for a source line is a "white space" change.
Or a setting where you can control the date field in date area being updated on a source line "White space only" change.
An example of this is RPG Free.

Use Case:

As example, when you wish to add a condition that did not exist prior, you indent all logic between the new condition. This indent "white space only" causes the date field to change. Then when unit testing changes based on a date range, all lines a considered changed. Do not change the date field in date area if only change "white space".

This would be great to have in /FREE. I have a former co-worker who didn't indent consistently, when he indented at all. When I clean the code up, I don't want it to look like I changed the logic, when all I did was insert or delete a few spaces in front of it.

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM not implement this request. Although this may seem inconvenient, NOT changing the date could have unintended consequences.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBMIdeas on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

We agree and we want this also to be applied to CL-sources that are indented.

We have reviewed this requirement and we feel it would be a beneficial enhancement to the product. We hope to be able to add it to our development plans in the future.

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

For /FREE I have no problem, but in fixed format lines a whitespace character can change the entire meaning of the line (over exaggeration not withstanding). Please limit this change to /FREE statements, or someone more knowledgeable could decide which whitespace changes need to have a change date recorded.

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.
