Inline table data editor (ie. DFU GUI) Merged

While IBM i ACS has various database related features, editing data still needs to be performed via SQL statements.

In 5250 we do have the DFU utility for this which allows us to easily add, change or delete data in a user friendly method.

It would help productivity a lot if we would have a similar tool in IBM i ACS that allows us to edit the data (ex. selected by SQL) inline in the result table like other tools do (ex. MS Access)

Use Case:

Easily and intiutively change data without the need to write 5250 programs or SQL statements which could help during setup of data sets for testing or configuration.

    IBM understands this request and will consider it for a future code update, though no commitment is made or implied.

    The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

    Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

    Hello, In the latest version of ACS if you do select * from mytable for update;
    Just add for update to your select statement and you can edit/update the fields of the resultset.
    Regards,

    Microsoft's SQL Server Management Studio has this capability. It even allows you to subset via query and then edit the resulting rows.

    IBM has received this requirement and is evaluating it. A response will be provided when evaluation is complete.

    Personally I'd be happy if IBM just added the Data Studio edit capabilities to either ACS or RDi.
