Merged idea

This idea has been merged into another idea. To comment or vote on this idea, please visit IBMI-I-1480 allow three part names in db2 for i services.

3-part names in stored procedures and UDTF Merged

Today 3-parts names are allowed to run SQL select , update and delete - statements to access resources on remote servers. However, 3-parts names are not allowed for stores procedures and user defined table functions.

Use Case:

Today you can run a 3-parts name statement like this:

Select * from dksrv133.qiws.QCUSTCDT;

Where dksrv133 is the remote system, qiws is the schema and qcustcdt is the table.

However this will fail:

Select *
from table (
dksrv133.QSYS2.OBJECT_STATISTICS('QGPL', '*PGM')
) as X;

Only schema and resource names are allowed in stored procedures and UDTF

    This request is a duplicate of RFE 113689.

    The following work-around is included in this RFE as well.

    To direct a table function to be run on a remote system, add a three-part reference to a table on that system. Here is an example. Replace RMTDB with the system you want to access.

    select current server, h.*
    from table(qsys2.history_log_info()) h
    where exists
    (select 1 from RMTDB.sysibm.sysdummy1);

    The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to address.

    The output from the current workaround is difficult to interpret. To encourage customers to adopt services it would be helpful if they were delivered in a consistent manner and to database standards.

    Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

    The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed.
