Quick Method to Side by Side Compare an Open Source Member

Provide a quick method to compare a source member opened in LPEX editor window. Current option available is slow because it forces browsing through libraries, source files and members before a source member can be selected.

It would be a lot quicker if user is allowed to input the other source member path and name instead of browsing all the way.

Also, some people prefer seeing compare differences side by side instead of being merged in the open source. A user option to select if compare differences should be displayed either Inline or side-by-side would be very helpful addition.

Use Case:

Current option have these steps:

Open source member in LPEX editor.
Press ALT+E, ALT+O.
Compare file window opens, showing all connections.
Expand Connection,
Expand Library Set (wait)
Browse and then expand Library (wait)
Browse and then expand source files (wait)
Browse and then select source member to compare (takes long time).
Compare results are merged in current source.

Proposed option would have these steps:
Open source member in LPEX editor.
Press ALT+E, ALT+O.
Compare file window opens, showing all connections.
New Addition: Give user a check box to compare inline or side by side
New Addition: Allow user to either browse to or input full path and name of source member to be compared to.
Compare results are displayed either inline or side by side based on user selection.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your request. After careful consideration, we know that we cannot deliver your requested enhancement in the near term, so it is being declined. However, your request does align with the future strategy of our product and we believe it may have future value, so we will add it to an internal list for us to keep in mind for the future.

We have reviewed this requirement and we feel it would be a beneficial enhancement to the product. We hope to be able to add it to our development plans in the future.

Do you want LPEX compare or Eclipse compare? Would it be good enough to make the LPEX compare easier in terms of selecting the member to compare? Or do you also want side by side compare or eclipse compare from an open source member? Or Both?

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.

Side by side compare is already available using Eclipse compare: in Remote Systems view, select two source members and right click to select Compare With -> Each Other

A preliminary evaluation of this request indicates that it is consistent with our business strategy. Further evaluation of this RFE is underway.
