Support WITH TIME ZONE in DB2 for i

Timestamps are stored by default in the current timezone which causes problems if you need to support an application in different timezones, compare historical data with other systems or on DST events.

It would therefore be useful if DB2 for i would support the WITH TIME ZONE setting on a timestamp field (as DB2 for z/OS does).

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address. Although in the past businesses have dealt with time zone differences, moving forward the need to deal with time zone differences will become even more prevalent, so this function needs to be provided.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

This would be especially important for system-period temporal tables on systems affected by daylight saving time.
