directly enter SQL-Arrays as Input Arguments for Stored Procedures

Our reporting systems calls Stored Procedues on a DB2/400 system via ODBC/JDBC. The SP receives for example one productID and then it collects the desired informations from our DB2400-tables and return it to the reporting system via a result set. When the report consists of more than one product, the SP needs to be called many, many times with different arguments. Due to the multiple calls, it takes a long time before the result can be presented. The idea is to call the SP only once for all products, with the possibility to enter a SQL Array as an argument to the SP. For example: call storedProc parm(["productID1", "productID2", "productID3","productID4", "productID5"]) This means only one call is needed for many products with comparable performance to only one call.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this Idea at this time, so it is being closed. The database team has many higher priority requests they are working on, so it is unlikely that this Idea could be implemented any time soon.

An existing solution could be to pass the list of values to the procedure as a JSON object that contains a JSON array. The procedure could deconstruct the JSON using JSON_TABLE to access the list of values that it needs to process.
