Add SQL URI_ENCODE / URI_DECODE Function

IBM i SQL URI_ENCODE / URI_DECODE Function required to provide native support for HTML entities conversion.


Benefit: Enables decoded URI value to be stored in an IBM i table as UTF-8 and displayed in ACS. Especially useful when working with different languages.


IBM i already supports URL_ENCODE and URL_DECODE SQL function.

    This enhancement was delivered in November 2023 with IBM i 7.5 PTF Group level 5 and IBM i 7.4 PTF Group level 26.

    Two new built-in scalar functions, HTML_ENTITY_DECODE and HTML_ENTITY_ENCODE, handle conversions involving HTML entities.

    Is there an expected difference between the existing URL_ENCODE/URL_DECODE and a "URI" version?

    The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority Idea that is important to be addressed. This would help rocket-propel the use of the SQL webservice functions.


    Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your Idea.
