Increase the maximum size of LOB objects to at least 4GB but perferrably 2TB

The 2GB "limit" on LOB objects is sometime painful. The limit should be at least 4GB but other databases support LOB sizes up to 2TB. So since this is the premiere database, I think we should also have the highest limits.

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM not implement this request.

We have not seen a use case for this, and do not see value in this request and major risks.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

When we are weighing this potential enhancement against others, it would be helpful to understand the use case for such a large LOB. With our current architecture, increasing the size beyond 3G becomes very expensive. What data are you working with that requires a 4G LOB? How would you use a 2TB LOB? Note that the size of a table is restricted to 1.7 TB today.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address.

With IBM i being a database system - we want that system to not fall back behind other platforms with regards to size limits.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
