Compare without sequence #

The stock compare function, as initiated with a right-click in the RSE includes sequence # in the comparison. There doesn't appear to be a way to stop this from happening, so many more differences are tagged than we would like.

Use Case:

We have source from a vendor that we've modified. The vendor has sent updates for their software, so now we're trying to merge the vendors changes with out changes. Ideally I'd also like to have a merge function, but I'd at least like a functional compare function to confirm the changes I need to make, and then the changes I have made.

This feature is now available in the IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software V8.5 product with V8.5.1 fixpack installed.

The Eclipse text compare editor has been enhanced to provide sequence number management for the following IBM i source types:
    rpg, rpgle, sqlrpg, sqlrpgle
    cbl, cblle, sqlcbl, sqlcblle
    cl, clp, clle
    pf, lf, dspf, prtf

Sequence numbers and change dates are now managed on the side when doing Eclipse compare/merge operations. Care is taken to reduce the effects of merging on sequence numbers of the target file. Change dates in the target file for existing lines are not modified if they need to be resequenced as the result of a merge. This enhancement supports 2 and 3-way compare/merge operations in i Projects, local history, and RTC history. RSE has also been enhanced for these source types to allow for read-only side by side compare of two remote members.

The LPEX-style compare is still available from within the LPEX editor.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest this enhancement to our product.

you can download to a project without sequence
numbers and use one of the eclipse compare tools. This works, but an RSE compare ignoring sequence numbers would be better. Ideally, we'd have options to turn on sequence number/change date compares if you really wanted them.
