There is a capability in RDI to do a select on a block of code(Alt+R). There is a need for the capability to do a block paste at the selected target that is basically a block replace/overlay or insert without re-aligning the copied block to other columns.
This would be a cut/copy and insert/replace operation.
Hopefully, a simple key combination could accomplish the task.
Most importantly, it would enhance the productivity of programmers.
For example, in a program that has a number or work columns/fields defined in the DCL specs. It would be helpful to copy the names of the fields to the calculations area for processing (loading values from database columns, etc, etc). Currently when a block is first copied then pasted in the target area, the target block text is re-aligned as regularly entered text and not as an aligned block where desired.
There are as many situations where block paste could be used as there are programmers.
It is also available in text processors and in other languages.
Most importantly, it would enhance the productivity of programmers. It may even speed the adoption of RDI that has more capability.
