Transform Services V7R5 Manager socket remains open after abnormal system end or Flashcopy

Changes were made within the Transform Services code at 7.5.  The changes include a QCTXMGR job in QUSRWRK subsystem and a manager socket server job in the /QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/TransformServices/ServerJob directory. The job and socket are linked.  If the QCTXMGR job is not ended or ends abnormally, the manager socket remains open.  Message CPFCE02: Unable to access the required transform service, reason code 3 - Unable to open the communications connection, is issued.

This impacts creating PDFs using CPYSPLF and OVRPRTF commands, downloading in PDF format in IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS) or Navigator for i. It also impacts print writers that process spooled files that contain AFP resources using the AFPRSC DDS keyword.

The recovery is to end the QCTXMGR job(s) and remove the open socket. Recovery instructions in Transform Services Fails After FlashCopy or Abnormal System End on 7.5:

The request is for Transform Services, product 5770TS1, to incorporate a recovery option into the product code.

CEAC has discussed this idea and actually considers this behaviour a bug that should be fixed.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at

Auto-recover from this error by the OS would be welcome, because the issue persists after last abnormal IPL, also if normal-IPL was running later.

Anything that can be done to auto recover from this error by the OS would be welcome. We had an end of day job become suspended because of this error and it delayed our normal operating procedure. Manual recovery is easy enough, so if the OS could handle it, that would eliminate a potential issue.
