ACS with GraalVM

ACS is a java program, that benefits from all what Java is good for, however also have two downsides:

  1. The statup time is slow

  2. The memory consumption is high.

The memory consumption is an real issue when using ACS in Citrix environments.

So the idea is to deliver ACS compile with GraalVM to provide binary executable programs for windows, linux and Mac - and at the same time provide the JAR we have to day for the more special environment.

GraalVm is "tree-shaking" the java code, so only the activated parts are with in the binary executable.

Also - you don't have to think about the JVM on the client, since the final code is directly an executable - with no JVM required on the target ( client) PC.

Thank you for submitting your Idea to enhance IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS). According to the GraalVM documentation, it can be used to:
    1. Run existing java applications by replacing your existing JDK/JVM. See the Getting Started section of https://www.oracle.com/in/a/ocom/docs/graalvm-enterprise-white-paper.pdf
    2. Compile an existing runnable jar into native code: https://www.graalvm.org/latest/reference-manual/native-image/guides/build-native-executable-from-jar/#:~:text=You%20can%20build%20a%20native,executable%20from%20a%20JAR%20file.&text=Make%20sure%20you%20have%20installed%20a%20GraalVM%20JDK.
You could try #1 without any intervention from IBM. It may also be possible for you to do #2.
At this time, we do not plan on providing a native executable for ACS on all the various platforms.
