iACS: Rewrite the documentation for IBM i Access Client Solutions

There is much that is missing from this documentation. Including, but not limited to:

  • How to limit users access to some of the functions by using server configuration such as "Function Usage" available in IBM Navigator for i. Sure there are ways of configuring the individual clients but that is cumbersome when you have many clients and anyone with a browser can search the internet on how to change that limit and turn it off.

  • How to use the GUI to change some of these functions instead of manually updating configuration files. For example, see this video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbVRpoB0Rio

  • How to use many of the features in Run SQL scripts like the ability to click on web links in comments and have it go to that page.

Thank you for submitting your Idea to enhance IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS). We do try to document new features that are not intuitive nor self-explanatory. Rewriting the existing documentation or consolidating all of ACS?s existing capabilities in one place is not something we are able to do in the near future. For that reason, this Idea is being declined.

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM not implement this request.

There is a lot of information provided to the community about many parts of iACS. However, this request is too broad, and we suggest individual problems should be submitted as separate ideas.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

I feel there is much work to be done in this area. I probably need to offer examples, I will look for them. Basically I notice that new features seem not to be documented in the product's help files, they are likely on some web page in updates to ACS. Still, details of how to use are important.

Wondering if this is a community project. Since all this info is out and around the net, maybe we should just curate it all on some community site?
