Allow path to hod files to be specified so open other will start in the required directory.

I have quite a few systems that I connect to using 5250 sessions and I use the tabbed option.

When I click the + sign to start a new tab, which I have set to Start Other, the directory shown is where the last session was started from which commonly is the desktop, (C:\users\<my_profile>\Desktop) but all my .hod files are in the Emulator directory, (C:\Users\<my_profile>\Document\IBM\iAccessClient\Emulator).

When I create a new 5250 session, session manager will save the hod file to the Emulator directory, I then have the option of right clicking and copying to the desktop which saves opening session manager to start that session, but then the directory for starting another session is set to my desktop which is not where all the hod files are.

One solution would be to allow the directory to be set with a new entry in the AcsConfig.properties file something like this.

com.ibm.iaccess.RunOtherDirectory=C:\Users\%CURRENT_USER%\Document\IBM\iAccessClient\Emulator

Or this could be set during the install to the location of the Emulator directory.

Thanks

Don Brown

    Thank you for submitting your Idea to enhance IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS). The ?Copy to Desktop? option from ACS Session Manager copies the hod file to the Desktop and does not create a short-cut to the hod file in Session Manager. Starting the hod session from an actual hod file on the Desktop makes the Desktop the directory that Run Other will reference. If you want the Session Manager directory to be used by Run Other, than instead of copying the hod file, create a short-cut to the hod file and put the short-cut on the Desktop. This can be done from Session Manager by File->Open Directory, select the hod file, and then from the Context menu displayed by the OS, take the options to create a short-cut and send it to the Desktop.

    • This is, after all, what Session Manager is for.

    • Sounds like IBM is being asked to fix a bug in Windows 11.
