XML-INTO to have full UTF-8 support, or work as old time "MOVE" function and don't care of what the content is, just dump it into the receiving variable.

XML-INTO to have full UTF-8 support, or work as old time "MOVE" function and don't care of what the content is, just dump it into the receiving variable.

example:   incomingfile.xml encoded in UTF-8 should be parsed and a number of data should be stored in DB2 fields encoded in UTF-8 (1208), but not all the data.

When parsing the data today.
The parser of today seems to validate the incoming file first, and if I'm correct all the data is converted to usc2 (1200) and if some character does not exists in CCSID 1200 the parser stops.

future
Add option to assume UTF-8 data, the <tags> should absolutely fit in CCSID 1200, and if it fails it should be at runtime when moving data to the data structure.

IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this Idea.

If this Idea is implemented, the most likely implementation would be that XML-INTO would support "ccsid=utf8" as an option, and the parsing would be done in UTF-8.
