Filter RPG view by unused variables

At version 9.6 of RDi we can see which variables are not in use in various ways.

Add to the "Filter view" context-menu option the ability to select "Unused"

Use Case:

With the current support I still need to scroll through a source member, looking for the information flag on the left.

This feature is now available in the IBM Rational Developer for i V9.6 product with V9.6.0.2 fixpack installed.

Error annotations in the editor can now be navigated using the Next and Previous Annotation toolbar buttons. The keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+. and Ctrl+, can be used for Next and Previous navigation, respectively. Error navigation includes compile and program verifier Error List errors, ILE RPG live parser errors, and ILE RPG Unreferenced Definition warnings. The combination box toolbar button can select and deselect the types of annotations available in the navigation. This can also be configured through the General > Editors > Text Editors > Annotations preference page. Note that syntax checking errors are always available in the navigation.

The annotation navigation looks promising - it does not look like it is activated, at least for a member I tried it in. I am using 9.6.0.1

Unused RPG declarations are now identified by annotations which as shown in the right hand side of the editor and can be clicked on.

Eclipse provides another mechanism for navigating to the next / previous annotation. It would be a better fit for the Eclipse UI to use this mechanism (Ctrl-. and Ctrl-, and the toolbar button) to support the need to navigate to all unused RPG declarations.

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. This would be very useful for cleaning up unneeded code.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

For more information about CAAC, see www.common.org/caac

For more details about CAAC's role with RFEs, see http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/Blogs/i-Can/May-2017/COMMON-Americas-Advisory-Council-%28CAAC%29-and-RFEs/

To look for information flag, you can also select the blue marker on right side in the editor.
A preliminary evaluation of this request indicates that it is consistent with our business strategy. Further evaluation of this RFE is underway.
