Add new parameter SAVDTA( *YES | *NO ) to the SAVLIB and SAVOBJ commands.

It would offer the ability to save a library (or object) without data so that a new instance of an application could be created starting with an empty database. Everything would be saved except the data. When the library is later restored tables and data queues would be empty and data areas would be blank / zero.

SAVLIB ... SAVDTA( *YES | *NO )

SAVOBJ ... SAVDTA( *YES | *NO )

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM not implement this request.

Alternate options are: Create table as, CRTDUPOBJ with option duplicate data *NO

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement.

They understand the wish for this -but also found a lot of cave-ats while discussing (for example - you need to make sure that this is not considered the "last correct save" when recovering a system or when applying journalchanges that occured after a save).

This idea is to a certain degree also in idea 3891 - see use case 3 in that idea.

IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this Idea.
A workaround is to duplicate objects using CRTDUPOBJ or CPYLIB specifying DATA(*NO) as well as considering the file specific parameters CST, TRG, FILEID, and ACCCTL. This creates new instances of the objects without the data which can then be saved.
