On Access Client Actions add new options for Download and Upload a Save File

Currently the easiest way to transfer a save file to or from an IBM i would be to use FTP. You can also do this via the Access Client but it is difficult to do. What I would propose to do is add two options Download Save File and Upload Save File to the Actions menu on Access Client.

Download would request name of save file and library, confirm that Save File exists, switch to Binary mode and download to Download directory of attached PC.

Upload would request name of save file and library, name of PC file and directory, confirm that a save file already exists in the requested library, switch to Binary mode and upload the file.

This would make downloading and uploading of Save files a whole lot easier.

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM not implement this request.

    There is an alternative available.

Here is a tutorial you can use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFH0uW_klvA

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

Thank you for submitting your Idea to enhance IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS). You did not provide the specific steps you use for transferring a save file using ACS, but if you use the ACS Integrated File System support and navigate to the save file using a path in /QSYS.LIB, it should be very easy. Assuming you have a save file named SOMEOBJS in library MYLIB, you would use the ACS Integrate File System support to navigate to the path /QSYS.LIB/MYLIB.LIB. Select SOMEOBJS.FILE for download (binary is the default). For upload, you would navigate to the library using the path /QSYS.LIB/YOURLIB.LIB and select the save file on your workstation that you would like to upload. For uploading a save file from a workstation, we support an extension of either .FILE or .SAVF (.SAVF will get renamed to .FILE). Does this meet the requirement? If not please explain.
