As we all know - Security is a critical aspect of any organization’s information management strategy. One essential element of database security is managing user passwords effectively. The gradual database password rollover time refers to the ability to enforce periodic password changes for users without immediately expiring their current passwords.
Instead of an abrupt password expiration that may lead to unexpected access denial, the gradual rollover time approach allows users to continue using for specified time their current passwords.
I find it as game changer for client applications connecting to IBMi via CLI or webservice.
Nowadays it's almost impossible to change password simultanously on both sides - the server side and client side without service disruption.
This functionality is already present in competietive solutions.
Benefits
Smooth Transition: By gradually rolling over passwords, organizations can avoid sudden disruptions caused by immediate password expiration.
Enhanced Security: Regular password changes are essential to mitigate the risk of unauthorized access. Gradual rollover time encourages users to update their passwords regularly, reinforcing the security posture of the database. Due to risk of disruption organizations sometimes avoid to change passwords on profiles for business critical services.
