System list navigator

In a scenario of a company managing a significant amount of IBM i partitions it would be really important to have the ability to manage all those partitions via navigator.

At the moment when a new system is defined one has to either manually enter it for each individual user or dump the list and reimport it (again manually) for each individual user.

So the idea would be to have some sort of API or trigger that would allow a new system to be entered automatically and for all users

  • via API in the context where it is something external to IBM i such as a CMDB

  • via trigger in case the user wants to share that system with his colleagues

We can see the benefit of providing a callable interface to add a system to a users list of supported systems. It would not include the authority information, just the system name. IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this Idea.

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM not implement this request.

    Potential security exposure.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.
