This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Sounds like they're asking for SQL iQuery RUNiQRY OUTPUT(*whatever) functionality.
Currently to do an "ad hoc" query to a spool file ... I have to create a CL program like this:
PGM
RUNSQL SQL('create table qtemp.outfile as (SELECT +
JAUSR, JAJNR, PROCX, JBREF, DTIME, PRGMN, +
substring(LDAXT,1,60) as ldaxt FROM +
amflibb.jobact) with data') COMMIT(*NONE) +
NAMING(*SQL)
RUNQRY QRYFILE((QTEMP/OUTFILE)) OUTTYPE(*PRINTER) +
FORMSIZE(*RUNOPT 378)
ENDPGM
My thought was a new function maybe similar to SYSTOOLS.GENERATE_SPREADSHEET, but with options related to outputting the SQL statement results to a spool file. With print options form length/width and output queue.
It isn't completely clear what you are asking for. Can you provide an example of what this function might look like and how it would be used? The current steps you go through today compared to the steps using the proposed function would be helpful.
It sounds like you are using RUNQRY with OUTTYPE(*PRINTER) to write the data to a spooled file now. This interface has many print-related parameters. Would all of these be expected for this new function?
If you use other interfaces to create spooled files today, such as CL commands or APIs, please share that information as well. Insight into how clients are solving the problem today can help us envision an appropriate solution.
