Create a service for RMTOUTQs or *LAN Printer Device Descriptions

Ref IBM Doc ID 640063

Getting a List of All TCP/IP Addresses Used in RMTOUTQs or *LAN Printer Device Descriptions

Is there a service available on current releases of IBM i that would allow us do eliminate the RTV command?

The document explains a method that gets real complex when what you're after in most cases is a specific device/printer, or, a list of existing devices/printers. Being able to query a service would be a whole lot easier.

    The CEAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority Idea that is important to be addressed.

    Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

    I do not think there is a SQL service for LAN Printer Device Description, but there is one you can use for RMTOUTQs:

    select X.OUTPUT_QUEUE_NAME, X.OUTPUT_QUEUE_LIBRARY_NAME, X.REMOTE_SYSTEM_NAME, X.INTERNET_ADDRESS, X.*

    from QSYS2.OUTPUT_QUEUE_INFO X where X.INTERNET_ADDRESS isnotnullor X.REMOTE_SYSTEM_NAME isnotnull;

    In relation to this, I'd like an SQL view over device descriptions that will list me --
    Object name
    Object text description
    Object IP address

    Where I work, we use a product called PrinterLogic and it relates network printer name to IP address.  I'd like to give the networking team a list of these Devd's and their associated IP addresses, so that they can also mention the Devd in PrinterLogic.
