Moving load source concurrently

The idea is based on the ability to be able to copy (and thus move) the load source from one disk to another without the need for downtime.

The operating system is already capable of initializing and moving data from one disk to another without doing any shutdown, the goal would be to be able to do this type of activity hot as otherwise done on many other operating systems, such as AIX.

    The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority Idea that is important to be addressed.

    Currently when moving the load source, machine must be at a dedicated state. Anything that can be done to reduce the time is essential to our customers. While the goal will be able to reduce the time move it concurrently, anything to reduce this time would be helpful.

    Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

    Is there still much systems with

    a) local disk

    b) frequent need for moving load source to bigger disk?

    Small loadsource on SAN?

    I second the idea but IBM does have lots of work to do...
