D-IPL from VTL in IBM Cloud for IBMi VSI builds

As far as I can see, there is no straightforward process to install IBMi VSIs in Cloud. There is a long winded process of setting up an NFS, adding image catalog, populating the catalog, sharing it, etc.

If I have a system save of the on-prem image in VTL, I would like to be able to ftp that to the Cloud VTL and then from a vanilla IBMi VSI run a D-IPL and rebuild the VSI in the image of the system save.

    Thank you for your request.

    You mention the long winded process of setting up NFS. It was for this reason we created Cloud Optical Repository (COR) instances in our Power Virtual Server offerings. More information on COR images can be found at this link below the heading "Configuration":

    Using a COR instance could help in this regard. Or perhaps you're already using COR, and adding your save media still seems cumbersome.

    In either case, unfortunately there's nothing more that can be done from a development perspective, though IBM Cloud does have its own Idea submission process. We recognize the value of this request and encourage you to submit it here for proper consideration:
