Oauth authentification for email

Hello,

In September 2025, Microsoft will deprecate SMTP with login/password and will only allow SMTP with OAuth.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/deprecation-of-basic-authentication-exchange-online

It would be a good idea to add this method to be able to continue sending emails using the O365 mailbox.

Thank you

IBM will use this Idea as input to planning, but no commitment is made or implied. This Idea will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

IBM is considering an off-release solution with a service account with domain-wide delegation.  A single service account impersonates users within an organizational domain, requiring administrative setup and domain-wide delegation.  The administrator would register through the Google cloud portal or Office 365 portal, ultimately generating a JSON file containing credential information used to authenticate with XOAUTH2.  CHGSMTPA would take the JSON file as input to store and use the credential information to request an access token from the provider's token endpoint over HTTPS.  The obtained token is used to send the email to that provider.

    Hello,

I also vote for this. It seems like more an more cloud provider just drop the basic authentication mecanism in favor of OAUTH 2.0 mecanism. So, it would be better that IBM implement this. The priority would be for the smtp client. However, I think it should be done accross the board for all services that may use OAUTH 2.0 authentication mecanism.

    Thank you.

    Best regards.
