Change "Open Member in Editor" dialog to open "Select a member" or file tree level matching where you click on "Browse..."

In the "Open Member in Editor" dialog, you can specify everything from connection to library to file to member.

If you don't know the library or file or member, you can browse for them. See "Open Member in Editor.png" attachment.

But the browse dialog always opens the same - to a list of connections that need to be opened using multiple clicks to get to the member you want to edit. See "Open Member in Editor.png" attachment.

You always need to have selected a connection, basically. So if you did not specify the library, RDi still knows what that connection is, so why not open to the *LIBL - and not just that but open all the way to the list of libraries IN the library list? 2 clicks gone! See the "Select a library...png" attachments.

Or to jump a couple levels - the same idea holds - say you have specified library and source file - you still need to open the connection, then you see a list including *LIBL, the library you specified, and the source file you specified. Then there're still 2 clicks to get to the place you want to be - the list of members.

Use Case:

The needless clicking leads to wasted time and a certain level of frustration with the product, when it is obvious that RDi knows everything it needs in order to get you to exactly the level of selection you want to arrive at.

We have reviewed this requirement and we feel it would be a beneficial enhancement to the product. We hope to be able to add it to our development plans in the future.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. For those who use this function a lot, it is a very frustrating time waster.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.

Attachment (Description): This is the way I'd like to see the library selection dialog open up initially - to the libraries in my library list.

Attachment (Description): The initial dialog you get when you click on Browse and have not entered a library - if you have entered a library, you would see it when you open connection, along with *LIBL, but nothing else.
