IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas

Provide Db2 table / SQL Service to provide information on changed objects as seen in Memo to Users for new OS release.

For each new release we review the list of changes made to APIs, SQL Services, Exit Points and Commands as recorded in the Memo to Users and then manually review these to see if our software uses any of these. For those that are used we then need to review the documentation to make a call as to whether or not our code will require changing, further test cases created etc.

The step of getting this list of changed objects is currently a manual task that could be simplified if IBM were to provide, for example, a Db2 table / SQL service, that would return a list of changed objects. We could then be able to query that table and look for the object in our source and produce a report that would hopefully show the object changed, the object type and the description of the change.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this Idea at this time, so it is being closed.

While we understand how this information could be useful, creating and maintaining a table that correctly represents the changes described in the Memo to Users (MTU) is a complex undertaking. There are a lot of changes in a new release. Many changes are also described in our twice annual updates to the MTU for multiple releases. Identifying which changes should be included in a table and recording each of them accurately would be a non-trivial, time consuming task.

While we will not provide something new, there is an existing partial solution for SQL services. There is a column named LATEST_DB2_GROUP_LEVEL in table QSYS2.SERVICES_INFO. For each row in the table, the value of this column reflects the most recent significant change for the row's SQL service. This includes incompatible changes that are described in the MTU as well as new services and upward compatible changes. Note that most security changes are not reflected in SERVICES_INFO.
