Extend the SAVxxx and RSTxxx commands to allow an IFS file as the SAVF file.

The SAV and RST commands allow the value *SAVF for the device parameter, but the save file itself must necessarily refer to a file located in a library. Of course, it’s possible to use the CPYTOSTMF and CPYFRMSTMF commands to achieve the desired results. However, it would save a step if we could directly specify an IFS file as the source or target for a SAVF file.

    Hello,

Thank you for submitting your idea. We appreciate your engagement and interest.

The functionality you're requesting is already available today through the IBM i Image Catalog. Image catalog entries are backed by the Integrated File System (IFS) and support read/write access to stream files (STMF). These files can be transferred to and from other systems using various methods such as FTP, IBM i Navigator, ObjectConnect, SCP, and more.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or if there's a specific enhancement you're envisioning beyond the current capabilities.

    Best regards,
    IBM Power Systems Development
