ACS SQL Sessions Automatic Timeout

Enhancement Proposal: Automatic Timeout for Inactive ACS SQL Sessions


Currently, users often leave ACS (Access Client Solutions) SQL sessions open after executing their queries. These idle sessions remain connected for extended periods, which may introduce potential security risks and consume unnecessary system resources.


Proposed Enhancement:

Implement a configurable timeout mechanism that automatically disconnects inactive ACS SQL sessions after 15 minutes of inactivity. This feature should:


Apply exclusively to ACS SQL sessions initiated through the Run SQL Scripts interface or similar tools.


Exclude other connection types, such as ODBC/JDBC connections, to avoid disrupting integrated applications or services.

    Thank you for submitting your Idea to enhance IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS). Providing a timeout value is not going to solve the security issue that exists when a user walks away from a connected session. To minimize consumed resources from an inactive session, there is already a Run SQL Scripts preference that is enabled by default at: Edit-->Preferences?, Results tab,
    "Automatically close cursor to release locks and resources after specified period of inactivity"
    The default is for 10 minutes. At this time, we have no plans to add the requested timeout option.
