RDi: display the text everywhere.

Please, display the item's text description everywhere there's a list, for example in RSE or remote search result, exactly like in table view, because it's very hard working on hundreds of items with only 10 charachters. I'm working on Rdi 9.5.

Use Case:

When I'm watching the remote search result it's very difficult understand where I found something without the member text, so I must open the member and read the comments inside.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

We have reviewed this requirement and we feel it would be a beneficial enhancement to the product. We hope to be able to add it to our development plans in the future.

I'm not sure if it is this you mean but I'm missing the description from the TEXT() keyword in the DDS file. So the presentation should be like this where the description is "Ordernumber":

    MYFIELD : PACKED(9: 0)
    Defined by:
    MYFILEL1/MYFILER1A - External: MYLIB/MYFILEL1/MYFILER1A/MYFIELD
    Desc: Ordernumber
    YOURFILEL1/YOURFILER1 - External: YOURLIB/YOURFILEL1/YOURFILER1/MYFIELD
    Desc: Ordernumber

And I agree that the description should also be shown in the outline when placing the cursor over a field from a file. This would be a great help when working with old 6 character fields.

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.

I support this RFE. Fortunately there is a workaround till it'll be implemented: The free iSphere plug-in can show member and object descriptions. The feature is called "Label Decorations" and can be set in Preferences - General- Appearance - Label Decorations. Just check "iSphere - Display Object and Source Descriptions (i Projects)" and "iSphere - Display Object and Source Descriptions (Remote Systems)".
