Allow Kerberos to be specified by connection

Currently Kerberos Authentication (SSO) can only be specified for all connections. It would be preferred to specify authentication options by connection.

My normal programmer profile does not have *CHANGE authority to production programs as required to debug a program. However, I have a different user profile which has the needed authority. Using this profile for general work would raise several security-related issues. However, on a limited basis, it is acceptable to do things like debug a production program.

Connecting with a different profile in order to use higher authority requires going into the global setting under "Remote Systems", "IBM i", "Authentication" and changing from "Kerberos" to "IBM i User ID and Password", make the connection, and then change the Authentication options back to Kerberos. This is cumbersome and easy to miss a step. Missing a step can cause connection issues with either the normal programmer profile or the higher privileged profile.

Use Case:

Use a different connection which prompts for an IBM i User ID and password. (This profile would have higher privileges.) When done with the requirement for higher privileges, disconnect and go back to work in the standard connection.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” low priority feature. It is not clear how common the use case is, but there are other ways to accomplish the same thing.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

We are OK for proposed solution:
Allow users to set at the connection level, not at the workspace level.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

You can create multiple sessions... some with/without SSO enabled.

Although the theme of this request is consistent with our business strategy, it is not committed to the release that is currently under development.
