Enhancement for SELF: exclusion list

In production environments, running SELF with *ERROR monitoring enabled is highly valuable for identifying potential issues in SQL executed on production LPARs. However, a challenge arises when frequently occurring and well‑understood SQL errors—such as -501 (cursor not open or already closed)—are generated intentionally as part of application logic (for example, as a technique to manage cursor handling).

Because these “expected” errors occur at very high volumes, SELF reports an excessive number of findings, which can lead to unnecessary contention and performance impact, while also reducing the signal‑to‑noise ratio for genuinely critical issues.

An enhancement that would significantly improve usability would be the ability to define an exclusion list or filter for SQL error codes. This would allow SELF to continue reporting all relevant errors while explicitly ignoring specific, known error codes (e.g., excluding -501). Such functionality would preserve the diagnostic value of SELF in production environments while avoiding unnecessary overhead and operational noise.
