Ability to limit which special characters are allowed or not allowed in a password.

Password changes performed through ACS is using Unicode. Because IBM i does not restrict special characters when QPWDRULES is active, users can select characters that are valid in Unicode but do not map consistently to the CCSID used on the IBM i.

As a result, the password is accepted when created but cannot be reproduced correctly during sign-on, leading to authentication failures such as CPF1120 or CPIAD03. This is not a defect but expected IBM i behaviour in mixed CCSID environments.

We experience this every week, users change there password from the ACS and can not sign-on using 5250 because the the password is not valid even if they enter the correct password.

The only way to handle this is by restrict to CCSID-safe characters, however, we can not enforce this.

We need a way to limit which special characters that are allowed in the password.

We suggest IBM to add two new QPWDRULES directive to control which special characters are allowed (most important) and also another directive to control which special characters that are not allowed, so you can choose the ay you want to control the use of special characters.
