Support HMC Password Changes for Expired Passwords in IBM i Access Client Solutions 5250 Console

Problem:Many organisations restrict access to the Hardware Management Console (HMC) web interface and SSH for security reasons, leaving users with access only through the 5250 console provided by IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS).When an HMC user profile password expires, there is currently no way for these users to change their password through the ACS 5250 console. Instead, they must use the HMC web interface, which may be intentionally unavailable due to security policy.This creates an unnecessary administrative dependency and can leave users unable to access the system despite having valid permissions.Proposed EnhancementAdd support within IBM i Access Client Solutions for changing an expired HMC password during the 5250 console login process.The experience could mirror the existing IBM i password expiry workflow:-The user enters their expired password.-ACS detects that the password has expired.-The user is prompted to enter their current password, followed by a new password and confirmation.-If the new password meets the HMC password policy, it is updated and the user is logged into the console.This would provide a familiar experience for IBM i administrators while remaining consistent with existing password management behaviour.Benefits:This enhancement would allow organisations to securely disable HMC web and SSH access without preventing users from changing their own expired passwords through the 5250 console. By enabling self-service password changes, it would reduce the need for administrators to perform manual password resets and improve usability in environments where console access is the primary or only permitted management interface. Implementing a password expiry workflow similar to that of IBM i would provide a familiar and intuitive experience for administrators, while closing a functional gap in security-hardened HMC environments and enhancing the overall usability of IBM i Access Client Solutions.
